Very nice and very interesting Jura, with clear touches of wine without going over the top. I get some tobacco leafs and more ginger and some wood in the long finish, while it remains sweet and sour. Again loads of maple syrup and ginger and a touch of black pepper. It flirts with being vinous, but stays on the right side of that border, which I can appreciate. It is quite oily and mouth coating, mildly piquant and sweet on red fruit and oranges, with clear influences of the wine. There is also a floral touch and some ferns. The wine casks have helped to create a very aromatic nose on oranges, red berries, maple syrup and toffee, with hints of marzipan and something sweet & sour that I cannot quite pinpoint. It starts closed, but hand warmth and patience can work miracles. It was composed by – who else? – the famous Master Blender of Whyte & Mackay: Richard ‘The Nose’ Paterson, who recently celebrated 50 years in the business.
