12/2/2023 0 Comments Modified bed rest![]() My doctor just said bed rest and I've been doing modified bed rest to keep my sanity (and probably my families). I had red gushing blood at 13 weeks and I hve been on bed rest ever since, I am now 22 weeks. I personally think the jury is out on bed rest. Just wondering what you ladies have tried in your specific situations, whether you listened to doctor's advice or did your own thing? I can understand both sides of bedrest vs light activity, but it's like a catch 22. He does not want me on blood thinners since it can cause more bleeding or bedrest due to risk of increased clots. Peri doc wants me to remain active as usual so the clots can pass, but avoid heavy lifting and any strenuous activity. I'm better off at home using my stairs then be in the environnent I'm in at work for 8 hours. OB was hesitant to give me a week off of work until bleeding subsides yet tells me to "take it easy." Work requires a lot of walking and standing plus occasional lifting in a high stress environment (I work in ER). Especially as I slowly increase my activities from modified bedrest to light activity such as walking outside to get mail or preparing a meal in the kitchen plus I live in a 3 story home so can't avoid the stairs, but I've limited using stairs and I'm extremely careful going up and down slowly. Just when the blood turns brown and light I've noticed bleeding increasing. ![]() This time it's worse with few episodes of breakthrough bleeding. I'm 9 wks and this is my 2nd pregnancy with first trimester blood clots. I'm getting very conflicting advice regarding bedrest, modified bedrest, or continue activity as usual with SCH. ![]()
